Description

This collection of Drawings is a study of time, dimensional surfaces (actual and optical), and after images. A theme of Loss surrounds the work in varied arrangements of dreamscapes. Video of drawn work is projected onto a three-dimensional surface, and paper has been stretched over panels and presented with graphite and red cel vinyl to create a narrative. The execution of the work stems from an interest in the work of Art Nouveau artist Alfonse Mucha, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, as well as the work of Leonardo Da Vinci and the shared theme is derived from the common experiences of loss by many, combined with, and translated by my own such encounters.

As for red…
“There are also negative connotations of this color. Israelites in biblical times painted their doorframes in red blood to scare demons. Red in ancient Egypt was the color of the desert and of the destructive god Seth who inpersonated the Evil. "Making red" was synonymous with killing someone, evil doings were refered to as "red affairs". Salvation from Evil is the subject of an ancient Egyptian charm: "Oh, Isis, deliver me from the hands of all bad, evil, red things!" Writers of Egyptian papyri used a special red ink for nasty words. The first color you lose sight of at twilight is Red.
